There are several styles of wedding films.  The most popular is the highlight film. It will weave together the events of the day to tell your story.  Highlight films are usually 5-8 minutes in length. The may include music, audio for the service, and speeches.  The focus of the film is to highlight the magical moments of your day. The advantage of this type of film is the ability to easily share it with family and friends.  It can be shared on multiple platforms and watched by friends and family in any location.

Another type of wedding film is a documentary style film.  This incorporates additional footage and usually follows the timeline of the day.  A documentary edit is longer and more difficult to share on social media. However, more of the ceremony and speeches are incorporated into the film.

In addition to the wedding film, there are often add-ons available to consider. Possible edits common to wedding films are ceremony, speech, and toast edits.  They are full edits of each event and presented separate from the highlight film. These special edits are often kept as keepsakes for the bride and groom.

Many videographers will also include a teaser video or same day edit of the wedding day.  The teaser is a wonderful bonus edit and first look at the footage collected during the day.  It usually runs approximately 1 minute and is delivered within 72 hours of the wedding. A same day edit is also a one minute edit of the day and delivered before the end of the wedding reception.  These special videos are a sneak peak and will set the stage for the beautiful wedding film to come.

Knowing a few ins and outs of wedding films will help you understand what to expect from your videographer.  Your videographer will work hard to capture all the precious moments that will make up your special day. However, the job does not end there.  The real magic happens by creating a wedding film that is best suited to your style and story. Knowing what is available will help you and your videographer create a film to be treasured.
